Providing occupational therapy services for children since 2018

Coleman Pediatric Therapy specializes in pediatric occupational therapy services for children, ages birth to 18 years of age. Whether you are looking for an evaluation or for services in addition to school-based therapy, we are here for you. We bring our extensive experience, professionalism, and creativity to every child, customizing our interventions to highlight their strengths and work on their areas of need.

Katie has been practicing since 2010 in various pediatric settings. Working for two autism-specific ABA early intervention companies, Katie now specializes in sensory processing skills with the education of an occupational therapist with a background in behavioral therapy. She has also worked with several children who are visually impaired, thus acquiring knowledge and experience  with those children who are learning braille.  Katie started this company to provide services in Southeastern and Central Connecticut, where families have limited choices of local therapy clinics.

SENSORY INTEGRATION

Does your child refuse to wear socks? Is she spinning in circles all day long? When it's loud, is he screaming and/or covering his ears? We are specialized in assessing a child's sensory systems and how these systems integrate together, and how they can impact a child's behavior and their ability to participate in activities in their home, school, and out in their community.

ADAPTIVE SKILLS

At times, children have difficulty increasing their independence around their daily living, or adaptive, skills. Need help teaching how to tie shoes? What about using a fork and spoon appropriately? We can help you develop these skills by demonstrating and giving you strategies to implement in the child's natural environment.

FEEDING & ORAL MOTOR SKILLS

Some parents refer to their children as "picky eaters," but did you know many children have true adversities to certain food textures or taste? Let us help! We can work on oral motor skills as well as introducing novel food into their diet through the SOS approach to feeding and assessing the child's oral motor development.

HANDWRITING SKILLS

Children are being required to write earlier and earlier due to changes in the school curriculum. We are trained under Handwriting Without Tears and have an unique perspective that is trained to pick up and remediate the focus areas your child may be experiencing.

FINE MOTOR & VISUAL MOTOR DEVELOPMENT

In these times, more and more children are not developing their muscle strength and endurance due to the differences in play activity choices (indoor versus outdoor play). If a child is weak in his or her core muscles, it will impact how he or she uses her whole body to complete tasks. One's visual motor skills are indicative of how the child is using their eyes and hands together in a coordinated fashion.

HOME ACTIVITY/SENSORY PROGRAM

Your child's success as been shown to directly correlate to the carryover and support they get from their parents in their home. This is why home activity or home sensory programs are so vital. We will provide activities that fit within your family routine and of course, add in some FUN!

What clients are saying

“Katie at Coleman Pediatric Therapy came highly recommended to us when we were looking for feeding therapy for our 7 year old following his lip and tongue tie release. We did orofacial myofunctional therapy but needed to do something to address his sensory needs and their impact on his feeding. Kaitlyn was my son’s therapist and she guided us in learning about what he needed to be more successful with feeding. I feel like my son knows himself better now and I understand him and his needs/preferences/skills better as well. He has shown improvement and I’ve shifted some of my thoughts around food and feeding. Very nice experience. My son loved the gross motor area and activities.” -JC
